There are still many more weeks of reading to be done, so as long as you get us the copies in a timely manner, there will be no impact. The best way to get us a missing piece is by fax. This is supported by the traditional image of Fortuna as blindfolded, suggesting that even she is controlled by chance when she bestows the good or bad. This proceeds to the conclusion that perhaps the nature of Fortune has not changed over the course of the three books; it remains about perspective. At the beginning of Book IV, Troilus remains in the grips of grief and therefore sees Fortune as not an arbitrary force but one specific to pushing him to tragedy. To view it from Diomedes perspective, his fortunes at this point turn for the better. Additionally, from Criseyde’s perspective, tragedy has occurred yet she understands that through lack of choice she must find another lover for protection. Thus, Chaucer’s treatment of F ortune, whilst fixed, does change through perspective of the character and does not occur ‘without a reason’. Therefore, it can be argued that whether Fortune predestines one’s futures or if it occurs by chance, it remains not about controlling the fates but the human reaction to what it given out to each of us. Whilst Fortune plays an important part in the romance of Troilus and Criseyde, Chaucer also acknowledges Fortune as only one of the non-human entities that control human lives. The planets such as Venus and Mars feature as having a certain influence when in the right alignment; their influence depends on what each planets represent and how this corresponds to the occurrences on Earth. Through tracing the influence of Venus throughout the books, we can see where the planets also have an influence. A crucial section within Book II displays how Fortune and Venus work in unison: â€Å"And also blisful Venus, wel arrayed [†¦] To helpe sely Troilus of his woo† (Chaucer, Book II, l. 673-683) Through positioning the influence of Venus within the initial courtship of Criseyde and Troilus, it suggests that the planet of love aided them in coming together. This is emphasised through the use of ‘also’, suggesting that Fortune alone may not be sufficient in encouraging th e love affair. Yet it is also implied that Venus works separately from Fortune through the description of Troilus ‘of his woo’, insinuating that he is destined for tragedy through being at the mercy of fortune alone. Even with this implication, the planets are still seen as a secondary influence to Fortune. To support this, the Ptolemaic structure of spheres must be referred to as it presents planetary alignment as a higher power than Fortune. Through Fortune controlling earthly events, it remains at an almost human level whilst Venus remains in a sphere of light above earth. This suggests Venus remains as perfect and incorruptible, whereas Fortune presides in an area where it can be corrupted. It can also be seen as a higher power in that Venus remains unchanged in its support of love whereas Fortune is changeable through the symbol of the wheel. This constancy can be seen in the alignment of the planets being apparent in the romance between Diomede and Criseyde: †Å"brighte Venus folwede and ay taught/ The wey.† (Chaucer, Book V, l.1016) The phrase ‘folwede’ suggests that whenever the planets are in alignment, they influence human action. Through encouraging love for Diomede also, it suggests that planetary alignment is not as specific as Fortune is portrayed to be towards Troilus; it remains a force higher than this in influencing whoever is in the right situation. Therefore, Chaucer treats Fortune as only one of higher powers that influence human situation. Yet, Fortune is seen as more prominent in that it deals directly with human affairs, instead of being a secondary aid as Venus is seen as throughout Book II especially. Fortune is not only used in the aspects of love, but must be viewed as a wider force capable of penetrating all areas of life. Whilst Chaucer primarily uses Fortune within romance, he also uses wider events such as the Trojan siege to suggest its influences in other matters. Through the siege in the background, it also connects this idea of Fortune as a wider force yet also influencing individual fates. Through his name alone, Troilus is inextricably linked to the fate of Troy, alluding to the Troilus as a symbol of premature death. Also, through using the inevitable downfall of Troy, it suggests how Fortune is an arbitrary force that can control the lives of many. Troilus therefore becomes a symbol of the fate of Troy, linking the fates of all men and his fate within his romance with Criseyde. Therefore, Fortune is treated both as a wider force and one individual to certain men; it is only through the genre of romance and the intimate focus on Troilus that we see it predominantly as a force specific to certain people. Education is a fundamental right for everyone. However is that right being challenged in today’s society? Are the rights of those who are entitled to fair education being infringed upon due to policy and funding? These concerns are not only of today’s parents and future parents. These are also concerns of current students who are striving to obtain and maintain an education. Our economic standards are changing and could a fair education for the poor be on the brink of extinction? Extinction seems like a harsh word to refer to the condition of our current education system. Discussion: The layout of the drawing provided may be evaluated for the following: Areas that may not be Legally Compliant: A closer look at the drawing reveals that the dining and the meeting areas are connected to the outside only by one door. There does not appear to be provided with any direct approach to the outside through any other means of escape. Again the Dining area is split into two parts this would mean an additional travel for the service staff with the weight that they have to carry from the kitchen or pantry. This is a potential health hazard. The Dining area should have been placed close to the place where the pantry is located and thus is an area of concern. Security Issues in an Emergency Situation: In case of an emergency situation like fire or some other undesirable situation when it may force the people to leave the space in a hurry the problem of smooth exit is apparently compromised. The only exit and entry door placed in the front is quite a distance away and hence thus may lead to a stampede. Again the kitchen is a place where naked flames are to be found and may often be the source of the fire is also not provided with any exit facilities in case any such need surfaces accidentally. The kitchen staff will have to wait for the entire hall to be evacuated and emptied before they can find their way out. This is a very grave cause for concern. Whenever any emergency situation arises the people who are present need to be put into safer areas at the earliest i.e. before they are exposed to the hazards of the emergency. When the government means people it means not only the guests but also the people who are working in the area. Especially during an incidence of fire it is nece ssary to ensure that the minimum damage is done to the lives of the people who are present. Thus more openings straight into the area outside are necessary to be provided especially the kitchen staff(Nationalsecurity, 2016). Another category of emergency can be some kind of man-made disaster like some gun man trying to kill people. In such circumstances it is necessary that the occupants get the required help from the police for which one opening is not enough. The security and police personnel should be able to storm inside from various entry points to render effective service. Paucity of openings is a certain disadvantage. While the importance of the Fire Brigade is never to be underestimated yet the supervisory level of people must be trained up in handling the situation of a fire or any other untoward incident. This is the basic intention of the government that the people of the hotel present on duty are trained to handle the situation which means that they will certainly not replace the fire fighters but then their duty is to ensure that the people are moved to safety and the required steps of cooperating with the fire fighters are initiated. Locations of Firefighting Equipment, Emergency Escape Routes and Assembly Areas: In order to ensure that minimum harm is done to their people (their employees as well as their guests) it is necessary that the fire-fighting equipments are strategically placed to mitigate the effect of any fire situation. The fire-fighting equipments should be placed in locations which are in clear view of the people inside. This may make the internal decorations slightly messy but then this is a safety issue and hence the government rule does not permit that to be compromised with. Not only these should be in clear view but the operating instructions have to be clearly provided by the side of each fire extinguisher or any such equipment that may be necessary. Incidentally, there are two types of fire extinguishers which need to be in easy reach. The first is the water jet with Carbon Dioxide mixture and the second type is the Foam type fire extinguishers which would be used for electrical appliances where the cutting off the supply of Oxygen is of primary importance. Since there is a bar and restaurant with Kitchen there is every possibility that fires are caused either by naked flames or by electrical short circuits. Hence both the foam type as well as water jet with Carbon Dioxide should be made available. Further the locations of these fire fighting equipments should be near about the centre of the floor so that people trapped inside can use them from inside so as to minimize the damage caused by the fire(Norman, 2012). Next is the case of some workman meeting with an accident since most of the activities are manual in nature. In such cases also where an accident victim cannot be given due attention and there is a delay then also this is very seriously viewed by the authorities. Therefore provision is required to be kept for quickly moving out of the premises at a short notice and with minimum dislocation of other activities. Therefore more openings leading outside the building need to be provided for in this plan(Planning, 2015). Fire Safety Regulations and Industry Standards: Safe Work Australia along with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) are agencies in Australia who are available in each state or territory who are responsible for enforcing and 9mplementinh the relevant laws, regulations and acts pertaining to health and safety of the people working in any premises. Fire Order Procedures and Policy: The fire order procedure states that no organization will introduce any inflammable article into a confined space which may become a potential fire hazard. Again all electrical installations must be ensured to be fully protected against fire hazard(Kwok, 2013). Emergency Evacuation: In the event of a fire breaking out there must be provisions in the work area to not only get help in fire fighting and rescue easily but the installation must have sufficient facilities for people to move out fast through specially provided outlets and emergency doors all over the area. Staff Roles and Responsibilities in a Fire: Fire need not always be due to some unavoidable failures of equipments. There may be cases of ignorant handling which may lead to a fire. Thus it is very essential that people are trained to work in a safe manner and the supervisors must have the capability of correcting any person who may be jeopardizing the fire safety rules(Carmichael, 2015). Employees must be trained at using both types of extinguishers e.g. Foam Type as well as water jet type and they should invariably check periodically the validity dates of these extinguishers. They will also be trained in finding quickly the cause of the fire and use the appropriate fire extinguisher. A hazard management procedure is required to be evolved and implemented in which each supervisor has to give a certificate every week that all the fire extinguishers are within the validity period. Othello And Desdemona In Shakespeare's play Othello, Iago is the antagonist. That is, he is the villain in the play Othello. He is the person who causes an action to occur which affects the other characters in the play. This action may not necessarily be a good thing. Iago is the catalyst for Othello's change. He is the reason behind Othello's changing views of his wife Desdemona, which results in the deaths of many of the characters in this tragedy. In order to understand the role Iago plays in destroying Othello, it is important to understand how Iago uses other characters in Othello to set his devious plot into motion. Iago successfully manipulates the characters involved to further his evil plans. He does this in such a way that the majority of the characters' perceptions of each other change dramatically. Thus leading to Othello's transformation and Othello's changing views and behaviour towards his beloved wife Desdemona. Iago firstly uses Roderigo, a Venetian gentleman, in love with Desdemona and then Cassio in the process of annihilating Othello. Cassio is Othello's Lieutenant. Other characters Iago exploit include his own wife Emilia and Desdemona herself. Iago goes to a lot of trouble to conquer Othello. When Iago's interaction with the other characters is understood then it can be perfectly recognised, acknowledged and understood how Iago causes Othello's perceptions of Desdemona to change so drastically and quickly. Roderigo is the first fall under Iago's spell of manipulation. Roderigo is convinced that Iago is genuine and does everything Iago tells him to. Iago easily convinces Roderigo to tell Desdemona's father, Brabantio, of Desdemona's elopement with a ?moor'. Iago and Roderigo tell Brabantio of Othello's marriage to Desdemona who rushes over to Othello to unsuccessfully reclaim his daughter. "An old black ram Is tupping your white ewe." (Act 1, Scene 1, Line 90). Brabantio's perceptions of both his daughter and Othello have changed. Later on Iago uses Desdemona's deceit towards her father as a way of changing Othello's perception of Desdemona. He repeats the words Brabantio used "She has deceived her father and may thee."(Act 1, Scene 3, Line 289). Through this quote Iago tries to convince Othello that Desdemona has or could commit adultery seeing though she has already deceived her father in marrying Othello. This is one of the very first things that start Othello's downfall. Iago is skilfully feeding Othello with lies in which Othello will eventually believe in. Iago handles Cassio in a more slightly delicate way. Iago's basic plot is to make Othello believe Desdemona is having an affair with Desdemona. "Cassio's a proper man: let me see now; To get his place and to plume up my will In double knavery. How? How? Let's see. After some time, to abuse Othello's ears That he is too familiar with his wife..." (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 374-378). This quote explains how Iago pretends to be Cassio's best friend, giving him advice when Othello dismisses him from his office. In actual fact, it was Iago who planned this misfortune and uses it for his own benefit. "For whiles this honest fool Plies Desdemona to repair his fortunes, And she for him pleads strongly to the Moor, I'll pour pestilence into his ear: That she repeals him for her body's lust; And by how much she strives to do him good, She shall undo her credit with the Moor. So I will turn her virtue into pitch, And out of her own goodness make the net That shall enmesh them all." (Act 2, Scene 3, Line 320-329). In this part of Iago's soliloquy, Iago explains how he has given advice to Cassio to go to Desdemona and ask her to plead his case to Othello so that he will regain his position as Othello's lieutenant as possible. Now as Desdemona speaks about Cassio to Othello, Iago will be continually telling Othello lies of Desdemona's infidelity with Cassio. This is the next step Iago takes to further his plan. He makes it appear as though Cassio and Desdemona are involved together, having an affair. Othello does not believe Iago. "I do not think but Desdemona's honest. (Act 3, Scene 3, Line 228). He tells Iago that he is not a jealous man. Othello confidently says that Desdemona is faithful to him and he will not doubt her without any proof. I have always been on the smaller side for my entire life and I have never had a doctor tell me my weight is an issue or I am malnourished. I use to play baseball but I quit a few years ago but I have started to play racquetball on occasion. I then started doing a work out program for a project in school I followed it for about a month. I normally do about 60 to 90 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise a week. I do not do any vigorous-intensity workouts. I also do not do any muscle strengthening activities. According to my iprofile my DRI or daily recommended intake was 2462 kilocalories a day. Over the course of the project I was eating on average about 1107 kilocalories a day which is about 45 percent of my DRI. Which means I was normally under my DRI for calories. As far as I know I have only had one grandparent who has had diabetes and that grandparent is not related to me by blood so I do not believe that I am at risk. High blood pressure does run in my family but I have had several blood pressure test and they have all been within the normal limit. And my family does not have any significant history with heart disease and breast cancer. : Foods and Food Components to Reduce Sodium On day one I had a sodium intake of 4733mg of sodium. The foods that caused me to go over my limit were an In-N-Out double double with onions which was 1440mg and Panda Express firecracker chicken had 1062mg. On day two I had a sodium intake of 3884mg of sodium. The food items that led to this high sodium intake were the two bean and cheese burritos I had which had a combined total of 2431mg of sodium . On day three I had a sodium intake of 3822mg of sodium which is 166. 2 percent more than my recommended intake. The foods that led to such high sodium levels are the Taco Bell bean burrito which had 1216mg of sodium, a burrito supreme from Taco Bell which had 1340mg of sodium, and a Subway roast beef sandwich which had about 660mg of sodium. Saturated Fat My daily recommended intake for saturated fats was 27. 4g a day. For day one I had an intake of 48. 2g, day two I had consumed 20. 1g, and on the third day I had taken in 28. 9g of saturated fat. Added Sugars The foods I ate that were high in added sugars were two snickers bars on day one, no added sugars on day two but on day three I had a snickers bar and a hershey bar. I am not to worried about my added sugars because I dont eat them that often and I never really drink beverages with added sugars Refined Grains On day one I had eaten one In-N-Out double double and the bun was refined grain. Day two I had eaten two bean burritos from Taco Bell and the tortilla was a source of refined grains. Day three I had eaten a a Taco Bell bean burrito and a burrito supreme both had tortillas with refined grains. I dont think I did to bad in the refined grain section I was having at least one or two servings a day. Alcohol I did not consume any alcohol during this diet project. Foods and Nutrients to Increase Vegetables Variety and Fruits The only dark green vegetable I ate over the course of my diet study was lettuce. I only had tomatoes as my red vegetable and another vegetable I ate were onions. My normal meal does not meet the goal of half the plate. I do enjoy most fruits but I am not very fond of vegetables I have always been picky when it came to my vegetables. Whole Grains I did not have any whole grains during this diet study therefore I did not meet my goal of three servings a day. To add more whole grain to my diet I could start making sandwiches at home with whole gain bread. I could also start eating a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast everyday. Seafood I did not eat any seafood I typically do not eat a lot of it. My source of omega 3 fatty acids come from beans. On day one I had zero percent omega 3s, on day two I had 51. 8 percent, and on the third day I had 25 percent of my daily intake. Dietary Fiber My recommended DRI for fiber is 38g a day and on day one I consumed 20g of fiber, day two I had consumed 22g, and on day three I had taken in 22g again. I had fallen short on my daily fiber intake over the three days of my diet study. To increase my fiber I could eat some carrots for a snack in the afternoon or have an apple or orange with my breakfast in the mornings. I could also have some pinto beans with dinner to increase my fiber or I could eat oatmeal for breakfast and increase my fiber intake even more by putting chopped fruit in the oatmeal. Vitamins and Minerals On my first day I was low in just about all of my vitamins and minerals but on day two I had the correct levels of thiamin and I had eaten more iron, niacin, and vitamin B6 than my recommended DRI. On day three I was low in all vitamins and minerals except for iron which I had reached my DRI for iron. To increase my levels of folate I could have a cup of strawberries or a cup of raw cantaloupe melon. I could also have an ounce of peanuts and two raw spears of broccoli. I was low in potassium levels so some foods I could have a half cup of cooked mushrooms, a small banana, about a one third cup of raisins and a cup of iceberg lettuce. One vitamin I was low in was vitamin C and three food I could eat to increase my levels of vitamin C would be oranges, red peppers, or strawberries. Self Evaluation Based on what I have written it seems that I do not really have any strengths when it comes to my dietary needs. I have realized that my major weakness is that I pretty much just eat what I want and how much I want with no regard to my DRI. My exercise habits are currently pretty poor I could start lifting weights when I go play racquetball or even start running in the mornings or at night after dinner or work. Another habit I could change is trying to eat more home cooked meals rather than eating fast food all the time or I could start keeping track of the amount of calories and nutrients I take in on a daily basis.
